Problems affecting the Urinary System: Cystitis
Bladder infections are usually caused by bacteria, which results in cystitis. Cystitis is an inflammation of the bladder, and is much more common in women than men. The infection can be caused by the bacteria escherichia coli. Cystitis often occurs in pregnancy as the foetus puts pressure on the bladder preventing it from emptying properly. Cystitis can quickly lead to a kidney infection, so if symptoms persist medical advice should be sought.
